Albany, NY — Today, the New York State Public Service Commission approved the National Grid Gas Planning Forecast, after adding it to its Thursday meeting agenda at the last-minute. It’s the latest step in the fast-track approval process for the NESE pipeline after Governor Hochul cut a deal with Trump this spring.
“Governor Hochul’s Public Service Commission just paved the way for a pipeline that regulators have already rejected because it threatens our water and violates our climate law. Nothing about this project has changed — it’s still toxic, still unnecessary, and still a handout to fossil fuel billionaires.” said Delgado. “What also hasn’t changed is Governor Hochul’s pattern of siding with the powerful instead of protecting New Yorkers. And now she’s cut a dirty deal with Donald Trump to force this project through. We need a governor who will stand up for our communities, lower energy bills, and lead us into a clean energy future — not one who caves to polluters and leaves people behind.”
The NESE pipeline has been denied multiple times for environmental and public health risks. National Grid’s own long-term gas plan in 2024 did not include NESE. An addendum to the plan was filed after Hochul’s meeting with Trump this spring.
