ANTONIO’S VISION FOR NEW YORK:

Protect Immigrant Communities

Kathy Hochul has stayed silent while ICE runs wild in New York. She’s leaving immigrant communities to fend for themselves against a rogue federal agency that shows no signs of slowing down, and she’s abandoning the values of sanctuary and safety that New York has long championed. This is a failure of moral leadership.

As governor, Antonio will:

  • Support the New York For All Act. This bill would prohibit ICE from deputizing local police officers to conduct immigration raids. Right now, seven law enforcement agencies in New York are cooperating with ICE under the 287(g) program.
  • Ban masked ICE raids. Antonio supports the MELT Act, which would prohibit the use of face coverings and plainclothes by ICE agents in New York.
  • End private immigration detention. While New York outlawed private prisons in 2007, a loophole in that law allows private immigration detention centers to continue operating. The Dignity Not Detention Act would close them down for good.
  • Invest in immigrant legal services. Kathy Hochul cut $100 million in funding for immigrant legal services from the state legislature’s budget proposal. The Access to Representation Act and BUILD Act would provide legal counsel to immigrants facing deportation proceedings.
