504 Democratic Club Endorses Antonio Delgado for Governor

Nation’s first and largest disability rights Democratic Club joins forces with Delgado’s bold, people-powered campaign

New York, NY — The 504 Democratic Club, the nation’s first and largest Democratic club advocating for people with disabilities, today endorsed Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado for Governor of New York. The endorsement was announced alongside Citizen Action of New York, marking a powerful early show of grassroots support for Delgado’s campaign.

Founded more than four decades ago, the 504 Democratic Club has led the way in advancing the rights of people with disabilities — fighting for accessible transit, inclusive housing, independent living, and equal opportunity in every corner of civic life. The group’s endorsement reflects growing momentum for Delgado’s bold vision to make New York affordable, livable, and just for all.

The endorsement, which brought together members of the 504 Democratic Club, disability advocates, and Delgado supporters, was announced at a press conference outside the Nevins Street subway station in Brooklyn — a location chosen to highlight the ongoing fight for accessibility in New York’s transit system. The morning included remarks from community leaders and disability rights champions alike. Nevins Street, like so many stations across the city, remains notoriously inaccessible for New Yorkers with mobility impairments.

“At a time when the federal government is dismantling rights we once thought immutable, New York needs a governor who will stand as a shield and a champion,” said Mike Schweinsburg, President of the 504 Democratic Club. “We cannot rely on politicians tied to moneyed interests. Antonio Delgado is a bold, transformational leader who speaks truth to power and fights for everyday New Yorkers. That’s why he has our full support.”

“As a historian of disability activism — and the son of two of this movement’s founders — I know how long and hard the fight for disability liberation has been,” said Warren Shaw, Vice President of the 504 Democratic Club. “With Antonio Delgado in the Governor’s chair, our progress will be strengthened, our rights protected, and our fight to make New York affordable and accessible for all will move forward.”

“I am honored to earn the support of the 504 Democratic Club, a trailblazing voice for justice and accessibility in New York,” said Delgado. “For decades, they have fought to ensure that people with disabilities are not only included, but also empowered to shape the future of this state. Their endorsement is a reminder of what this campaign is all about: building a New York where every person — no matter who they are, where they live, or how they move through the world — has the freedom and dignity to thrive.”

Delgado continues to build momentum statewide following his strong fundraising launch and grassroots support from communities across New York. His agenda centers on tackling the affordability crisis, expanding housing, childcare, and health care, and reforming entrenched systems of power to put people over politics.
